The Missionary in this paper attempts to show that in the Holy Qur'an, Prophet Isa/ Jesus (A), is the "most exalted of all!". We need not write a point by point rebuttal to his paper, but just address in parts what he brings up.
1-Jesus the "MOST" Exalted of All?
It is evident here that the missionary is once again trying to prove somehow from the Holy Qur'an that Jesus is God (as a matter of fact, who knows what the missionary is trying to prove from this article as no Muslim in their right mind would deny the importance of Jesus). How he attempts to do this now is to show that:
a-Since the Holy Qur'an speaks highly of Jesus,
b-Thus Jesus is God
Makes a lot of sense, right?
However, the question arises, what does Prophet Isa (A) himself say? The answer:
"And (appoint him) an apostle to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "'I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God's leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by God's leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe; (Sura )
As we see from the above, Prophet Isa (A) has the power to do what he can do, ONLY because Allah SWT has enabled him to do so! Further more, Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur'an:
Then will God say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount MY FAVOUR TO THE and to thy mother. Behold! I STRENGTHENED THEEwith the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I TAUGHT THEE the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, BY MY LEAVE, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird BY MY LEAVE, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, BY MY LEAVE. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead BY MY LEAVE. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic.' (Sura 5:110)
So it is not Jesus who is the "Most exalted of all", rather it is Allah SWT who is the "Most Exalted of All", this even Prophet Isa (A) testifies too:
Allah will say (on the Day of Judgment), "Oh Jesus, son of Mary! Did you ever instruct people, "Worship me and my mother as two other gods along with Allah"? Jesus will answer, "EXALTED ARE YOU! It is not my place to say anything I have no right (to say). Had I said that, You would have already known it. You know what is in my mind, while I do not know what is in Your mind. Indeed, You have (absolute) knowledge about (absolutely) everything hidden and unseen." (Sura 5:116 Translation by Dr. Munir Munshey)
2-The Ancestry of Prophet Isa (A)
To deny the importance of the Family of Imran is to deny what Allah says in the Holy Qur'an concerning them:
God did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imran above all people,- (Sura 3:33)
Even as the missionary pointed out, Allah SWT has blessed the Family of Imran so much, that Maryam (A) and her offspring, Prophet Isa (A) were protected from Satan, just because of the supplication of Maryam's mother to Allah! Infact, the missionary is so proud of the way the Holy Qur'an speaks of Maryam and Jesus' ancestry (please note that in the Holy Qur'an there is one whole chapter dedicated also to Maryam), that we should ask him where in his Bible do we see such praise of such important figures?? Nowhere do we see such praise as witnessed in the Holy Qur'an, in Mr. Shamoun's Bible! On the contrary, Jesus' noble ancestry is insulted in the Bible, please see this article for more information. It is even recorded in the Sahih Hadiths, that Maryam is one of the few women who reached the level of perfection:
Narrated Abu Musa: Allah's Apostle said, "Many amongst men reached (the level of) perfection but none amongst the women reached this level except Asia, Pharaoh's wife, and Mary, the daughter of 'Imran. And no doubt, the superiority of 'Aisha to other women is like the superiority of Tharid (i.e. a meat and bread dish) to other meals." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4 Book 55 Hadith Number 623)
Allah's Blessings be forever upon the Family of Imran!
Another thing important to mention is that Allah SWT praises in whole the Family of Ibrahim also (Sura 3:33). The Holy Prophet (S) is a descendant of Prophet Ibrahim (A), from his son Ishmael (A).
3-The Blessed Prophets of Allah SWT
Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur'an:
We gave him Isaac and Jacob: all (three) guided: and before him, We guided Noah, and among his progeny, David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron: thus do We reward those who do good:
And Zakariya and John, and Jesus and Elias: all in the ranks of the righteous:
And Isma'il and Elisha, and Jonas, and Lot: and to all We gave favour above the nations:
(To them) and to their fathers, and progeny and brethren: We chose them, and we guided them to a straight way.
These were the men to whom We gave the Book, and authority, and prophethood: if these (their descendants) reject them, Behold! We shall entrust their charge to a new people who reject them not.(Sura 6:84-89)
And We bestowed of Our Mercy on them, and We granted them lofty honour on the tongue of truth.
Also mention in the Book (the story of) Moses: for he was specially chosen, and he was an apostle (and) a prophet.
And we called him from the right side of Mount (Sinai), and made him draw near to Us, for mystic (converse).
And, out of Our Mercy, We gave him his brother Aaron, (also) a prophet.
Also mention in the Book (the story of) Isma'il: He was (strictly) true to what he promised, and he was an apostle (and) a prophet.
He used to enjoin on his people Prayer and Charity, and he was most acceptable in the sight of his Lord.
Also mention in the Book the case of Idris: He was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a prophet:
And We raised him to a lofty station. (Sura 19:50-57)
Clearly O Reader, Allah SWT speaks highly of all his Prophets, as they are the ones who preached the message of Tawheed, and who were rightly guided on the Straight Path. Our Respect is due to all of these Messengers, and mainly to Allah SWT, as He is the one who has favoured them, and allowed them to preach His call.
4-Response to Mr. Nader Pourhassan
Sam Shamoun proceeds now to quote from Mr. Nader's book "The Corruption of Moslem Minds".
We need not reply to everything he has written, just one important thing that I feel needs to be addressed. He quotes:
Moslem religious leaders try to isolate Muhammad from all other prophets by saying, "God kept the best for last." Again, this directly contradicts the Koran's teachings. The Koran says that some prophets have been given more than others - that some even talk to God. The example it gives is that of Jesus Christ, not Muhammad.
These passages clearly show that God considered Jesus to be His best prophet, not Muhammad. After all, Jesus revealed himself to be a prophet from childhood, while Muhammad was not inspired until he was forty years old. The Koran relates a number of miracles from Jesus' childhood, but says nothing of this phase of Muhammad's life. The name "Christ" is also used. Unlike Jesus, Muhammad was not a special messenger of God, but a mere helper, who brought justice to the world, and glorified the name of Jesus by setting the record straight about his deeds on earth. His mission was also to eliminate the corruption of the message of those prophets who had gone before him. On the other hand, of Jesus it is said that he was created in a similar way to Adam.
The one who talked to God is not Jesus, rather it is Prophet Musa (A) (Sura 4:164).
Also, note how the author says, ". Unlike Jesus, Muhammad was not a special messenger of God, but a mere helper, who brought justice to the world, and glorified the name of Jesus by setting the record straight about his deeds on earth. His mission was also to eliminate the corruption of the message of those prophets who had gone before him..", rather as a Muslim, one should refrain from discussing this, and Mr. Nader who claims to be very knowledgeable of the Holy Qur'an should know this out of all people. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah SWT says:
Say ye: "We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to God (in Islam)." (Sura 2:136)
The Apostle believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in God, His angels, His books, and His apostles. "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His apostles." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys." (Sura 2:285)
Say: "We believe in God, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)." (Sura 3:84)
So to imply what that author is implying (basically that Jesus' ministry and message was by far superior) would be completely ignorant as it goes against the Message of the Holy Qur'an. All the Messengers preached Tawheed (Oneness of Allah SWT), and they were all Monotheists.
Secondly, in each and every verse the missionary brought up, it clearly shows Jesus is a Messenger of God. One simple reply to this is:
SubhanAllah! Yes indeed he is a Messenger of God! One of the Mightiest Messengers of God!
But how in the world does this prove the Christian notion that he is God? And since it doesn't, then what was the use of Shamoun writing an article on it?
